Body & Neck

This rogue 5-string guitar is one of the few 5-string guitars on the market. It is already off to a winning start. The body is pretty standard for a guitar in this price range, with basswood being used as the main wood of choice. The basswood does the job but does not add a lot to the end sound.

The neck is crafted from maple, with a rosewood fretboard, and, again, is pretty much what you would expect. The body has a curved look, with the points being more curved than pointed, and you get a double-cutaway design, though the lower part of the cutaway is minimal, so you do not have access to the lowest frets.

All in all, this is a standard body which is to be expected.

Hardware

Instead of coming with a stock bridge, as most manufacturers would do with an affordable bass, this bass comes with a High Mass fully-adjustable saddle. This gives newer players a lot of versatility, opening up the guitar to intermediate players too. This also gives the guitar improved sustain, which similar bass guitars cannot compete with. Other than that, you have standard die-cast tuning pegs which get the job done.

There are a pair of single-coil pickups which do a good job. There is a J-bass configuration, and you have four control knobs. Again, this is more than you would expect. Two knobs control the volume and the other two control the tone. The combination gives you a bass which can do more than more entry-level basses.

Sound

With so much versatility in its hardware, you get a lot of versatility with the sound. The guitar does not only compare to the high-end models but surpasses the low-end ones. The tone is crisp and bright, and you get high-quality sounds from each note. You can also have a lot of options when it comes to controlling the tone of these notes.

The pickups have a good output, and listening to yourself play is rewarding as you can change your play instantly and really learn as you go.

Conclusion

You start with nothing special, but you end up with amazing sound. The hardware is what makes this guitar special and creates a sound well above what you pay for. This guitar is sleek and elegant, but your music will be more so. With crisp highs and booming lows, this is an advanced entry-level guitar.
