Body & Neck

The Taylor A12e is as stylish as they come. The design and finish have been kept simple, and there is a lot of power in that. The guitar looks great, with the natural finish of the wood showing through. The guitar measures in at 24.87”, making it a perfect concert acoustic guitar.

The top of the guitar is crafted from solid Sitka spruce, a beautiful wood, and the back and sides are Sapele laminate. The result is a guitar which is stable and has terrific resonance. There is a little mahogany on the body in the form of an ergonomic armrest, giving you a guitar which not only sounds impressive but is extra comfortable too.

The matte-finished Sapele neck sports an African ebony fretboard. The result of the two kinds of wood combining is just beautiful. There are almost no faults in the craftsmanship here, and you definitely get what you pay for.

Hardware

With such a well-made body, you expect the hardware to be high-quality too, and you will not be disappointed. As a beginner, you want simplicity, but the included electronics will make the guitar easier to play while pushing you to improve at a quicker pace.

The preamp controls are set up for the beginner and have been kept simple, with only a volume and tone control knob, forgoing some of the more complicated controls. There is also a built-in digital tuner which all new players will appreciate.

The chrome tuning pegs are a step above what you would expect from a decent guitar, and function while looking fabulous. The Elixir strings are perfect, the bridge is good, and the micarta nut gives good value.

Sound

Most guitars from Taylor sound amazing, and this one certainly does not disappoint. With the combination of the spruce and Sapele wood, you get a vibrant and balanced sound which is better than almost any other beginner guitar out there. There are warmth and brightness in every note.

You also get a lot of projection with this guitar and are easily able to fill a room. The guitar is great for jamming, busking, or playing gigs, especially if you hook up an amp to the guitar.

Conclusion

If you want the best, then buy this guitar. As a beginner, you may not want to invest a lot of money, but, if you are dedicated, then this guitar will stick with you for a long time. As you improve your play and skills, this guitar will have the quality to match.
